Sara Kent

Shelter Animals Count

Sara Kent became the first CEO for Shelter Animals Count in 2017. She is leading its evolution as an independent nonprofit organization that is home to The National Database of sheltered animal statistics.

Before her role at Shelter Animals Count, Sara was one of the first employees at Petfinder, where she spent over 17 years leading shelter strategy and communications for the adoption website as the director of shelter outreach.

Sara serves on the board of the Animal Welfare Federation of New Jersey, a statewide collaborative of animal welfare professionals. She is the founder of FIVER Cats, an online resource dedicated to community cats and FIV+ cats.

Sara works from her home office in Montclair, New Jersey, where she lives with her husband, stepdaughter in college and adopted pets: two dogs, Diamond Shamrock and Linda, three cats, Mr. Pickwick, Gerald and Jezebel, and a tarantula named 3.
